Hailed as "one of the most important composers of our time," Blake R. Henson has been praised for his diverse and imaginative musical works which the New Jersey Star-Ledger called "powerful and thoughtful at the same time."

Born in Dallas, Texas, Mr. Henson currently resides in Columbus, Ohio where is serving as a Lecturer while completing a Ph.D. in music theory at The Ohio State University. He holds a bachelor's degree in music theory and composition as well as a master's degree in composition from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.

Sought after for his choral, vocal, and orchestral work, Mr. Henson has received numerous commissions from professional ensembles, colleges and high schools, churches, and community choruses and orchestras including Chanticleer, Westminster Kantorei, Masterworks Chorus and Orchestra, and the New Jersey Chamber Singers.

Mr. Henson has studied composition with Joel Phillips, Jay Kawarsky, Ron Hemmel, Michael Cox, and John Parker and has collaborated with such noted composers as Mark Adamo, Stephen Paulus, and Tarik O'Regan.

As a performer, Mr. Henson has appeared with the Westminster Choir, Westminster Kantorei, Fuma Sacra, the New York Philharmonic (Alsop, Davis, Dutoit, Maazel, Gilbert, Hickocks), the Cleveland Orchestra (Boulez), the New Jersey Symphony (Labadie, Järvi), Dresden Philharmonic (Frühbeck de Burgos) and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (Litton) and has collaborated with such noted conductors as Joseph Flummerfelt, Andrew Megill, James Jordan and Emmanuell Villaume.

"Little Lamb" will receive it's premiere by James Jordan and Westminster Schola Cantorum this winter as part of Westminster Choir College's Readings and Carols performances at the Princeton University Chapel. "Silent Noon," commissioned by american conductor J.D. Burnett, will be premiered by the San Jose State University Concert Choir in the Spring.

We are delighted to announce an agreement with James Jordan and GIA Music which will give GIA exclusive publication rights to the choral music of Blake Henson. Look for the release of "My Flight for Heaven" as part of the Westminster Classics series later this summer.
